Secret Sanctuary

This one’s for me! Seven floors above a busy junction just south of the Thames in Central London is my balcony garden. Its view is across South West London over the dome of the Imperial War Museum, across to Battersea Power Station and beyond. It’s a very private space, where I can sit and be calm away from the busy-ness below. The floor to ceiling windows which wrap around each room really bring the outside in, so I’m keen to make the best of the view and find a way to frame the beautiful buildings on the horizon, but hide some of the less attractive ones..

Now that I have a new eye for design, I’d like to re-think my planting and make this space even more special. My requirements are: small storage, seating for reading and dining, year round greenery and plants that will attract any passing pollinators. I’ve had success with sun-loving plants as this balcony gets sunshine from 11 until 8 during this Summer and it’s curved nature means it’s generally sheltered from strong winds.
