Northern Soul

A design for a beautiful family in Macclesfield with a teenage son, an elderly Mother and a wandering corgi!

The plot was small (50m2) with a slope from the back door towards the opposite corner. They no longer needed the shed, but wanted to take advantage of the slope and create distinct areas. The budget was tight, so I drew up a couple of ideas that could be adapted.

I suggested to re-use existing pavers and gravel, but use hard landscape features to create steps up the garden. The raised beds were desired to keep nosy corgis out of the plants and also allowed Mum to potter at standing level. Whilst the majority of the existing garden could go, there was a tree and a planter of sentimental value, so I made sure I considered those in the design. Purple was their favourite colour, so plants were selected for year round interest with flowers picking up on the colour theme.
